The Hurst family lives east of Enumclaw where Chris and April built a home in 1984.  There, they raised their two children, Andrew, now 25, and Kimberly, now 21.  Both Andy and Kim attended public schools in the Enumclaw School District.  Chris is a lifelong resident of this area and his grandparents lived in Greenwater when he was a child.  This was when only a few families lived there year round.

About Chris
During his 25-year police career, Chris spent 14 years in narcotics investigations and was one of the original founding members of a federal drug task force called the South King County Narcotics Task Force.  He worked major drug trafficking organizations and traveled around the country and even did undercover flying as a pilot in drug cases.  Spending most of his time in investigations, he finished his career two and a half years ago as the Commander of a 15-city Homicide/Violent Crimes Task Force.

Chris and April are proud of their son Andrew who is currently serving in the United States Army as a Criminal Investigator after three combat tours as an Airborne Infantry Soldier.  Andy, while on leave from a tour of duty in the Middle East, married his wife, Catherine, almost five years ago, and they welcomed their first child, a boy named Jacob last April.  They are stationed in upstate New York, where they make their home with their dog and two very interesting looking "Scottish Fold" cats.  Catherine stays busy with Jacob, and working on her Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology (she is currently fluent in several languages, both speaking and writing!).  Catherine is originally from a town two hours from London, England, and the Hursts are proud to have her as a member of the family.

Kim graduated from Enumclaw High School and is currently working in Enumclaw.  Her husband, Brandon Lauk, works at Wilkeson Sandstone as a stone-
Chris worked throughout high school in his father’s cabinet shop, then went on to work in the woods as a logger in the Enumclaw area after high school, eventually starting his own forest products company which had as many as 12 employees.  He is no stranger to hard work, or the complexities of running a successful small business.  Some years later, he chose to go into public service as a police officer.  At that time he also went back to school to earn a degree in Aviation from Green River Community College.  He also was a pilot and a flight instructor in his spare time and eventually became an FAA certified Airline Transport Pilot, a license which he still holds today.
cutter.  Which is the source of the materials for our State Capitol in Olympia and other public and private structures around the country.  Kim and Brandon also have a son in their family, April and Chris’ second grandson Logan who will be one year old in June of 2010.

Chris and April will celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary this December.  April was originally from the Carnation area, so she is a lifelong resident of this area as well.  The Hurst’s are members of and attend Calvary Presbyterian Church in Enumclaw.  Although their kids have now moved out and are on their own, they still have their family pets including Jake the cat, a rabbit and five friendly chickens.

The Hurst family is very concerned about our dependence on foreign oil and the danger that we as a nation are in by giving our money to countries in the Middle East who seek to do us harm.  Every time they go to the gas pump, they think about our soldiers fighting in the Middle East.  To that end, Chris and April both drive hybrid vehicles, each of which average about 50 miles per gallon.  National security and environmental protection are important to them, and they are trying to do their part.  Interestingly, even though the vehicles are a Honda Civic and Toyota Prius, the Civic was made in the United States and more of the Toyota was made here in America than most "American" brand cars today.  The outsourcing and off-shoring of jobs is also a concern to the Hurst family, who do their best to buy locally whenever possible.  More and more, they, like many other families, are looking at labels to see the country of origin before making a purchase.  Supporting local businesses and farmers is very important to them.  They do most of their shopping in Enumclaw and the surrounding communities.
